In modern life, life can’t escape STRESS as we are guided within deadlines, failures & frustrations, demands etc. So stress is just like our daily diet and we all are used to, neither do we want to be completely get relief of it. Stress in small doses makes our life a bit spicy and fill it with excitement and provide reasons to live, win and go beyond impossible. Though everybody has the capability to combat stress but if the stress exceeds our tolerance limit then our body is running in emergency mode and we need to do something to restore our physical and mental balance to normal state otherwise our mind and body will pay for it. When the stress exceeds the threshold of our it lefts negative impact on our physical and mental health, such that we can loss our mental balance and sometimes causes fatal consequences. But there are ways to overcome stress whatever the intensity may be to reduce the physical and mental damage. So every one should learn every facets attached with stress and how to handle it.

What is stress?

The physical or emotional strain that we experience due to our response to some external pressure either at our work place or somewhere else due to arousal of some unwanted situation. When we feel stressed then our body reacts by releasing some chemicals in our blood stream to provide excess energy in our body to response to the external unexpected condition. The excess energy proves good to combat when the stress arise due to some physical danger but the same proves disaster to human health when the stress arises in response to some emotional condition and the body does not find any outlet for pouring this excess energy. This can lead even to mental breakdown.

Causes of stress.

Stressors or causing events or situation that makes you feel stress are not constant, neither stressors are negative all. We can even undergo through positive events and fell stress like getting marriage, facing exam, waiting for promotion. buying a new house etc. In other way we can define stress as a situation that puts us on high demands or compels us to adjust with it.

As said before that stress is not constant. It completely depends on an individual’s own perception that what makes him/her feel stressful. Something that makes you to feel stressful may not be the same for others or they may even enjoy that as challenge to meet or may have no feelings about that. For example you may feel stress at the entrance of your Boss in your workshop whereas your fellow mate may be looking it as an opportunity to take advantage of the situation.

The causes of stress may be divided into two broad categories – external and internal stress. Sometimes the causes of stress are not external but is self-generated.

Chronic stress

Chronic stress is the status when our body remains in a state of prolonged exposure to various types of stressors. Our emergency stress condition becomes so much habituated to remains in the “ON” status that our nervous system fails to activate the relaxation response. This condition generally occurs when someone is already handling so many responsibilities and has the pressure to perform those with perfection. Under such condition the emergency fight response of our body which has been designed to handle few stressors is trying to handle more than its capacity with full effort and soon become wear out and cause us to feel ill both physically and emotionally. The more our body’s response system is in active state, the more is the risk to getting trip rather than shut off.

Effect on chronic stress on health or stress health

The long-term activation or exposure of our emergency response system to several stressors can lead to serious health hazards. The common effect manifests itself in the raised blood pressure, increase the risk of getting heart attack and stroke, the ageing process gets speed up, destruction or neurons, decreased short-term memory. This is not all, the chronic stress also left deep impact on personal relationship by rewiring your brain and leaving you more susceptible to depression and anxiety. Chronic Stress can hit your productive capacity by making you infertility.

What is individual stress tolerance level?

Since chronic stress has widespread damaging effect on physical and emotional health, so we should learn the techniques of knowing, how much is our stress tolerance level so that we can start preparing for releasing our stress level to normal before getting overwhelmed.

It is often hard to discover the exact level or amount of stress that an individual can handle as capacity for handling stress varies with time and event and also varies from person to person. All people never have same level of stress tolerance level and you should not feel guilty for that. Our body shows some sign when our stress level is reaching threshold like headache, upset stomach, painful joint etc. We should trust ourself for deciding the max level of stress that we can handle and must find out the way to drain out the excess stress before reaching the max level.
