We learn for it so much that we are ready to follow whatever beauty experts advise, no matter how painful or weird they may be.
Among all these paraphernalia we forget the basic – our lifestyle determines our health and skin being the largest organ of our body, is a reflection of our inner health. So to have a healthy skin we should have a healthy lifestyle.
The first thing that we have to take care of is our diet. A healthy diet will go a long way in nurturing our skin.
Let us first discuss the foods that we should include in our diet.
Healthy skin diet
We should consume food keeping in mind the nutritional values of the food. A diet rich in valuable minerals and vitamins will do wonder to our skin.
Healthy skin vitamins – We should have foods rich in vitamins like C, D, E and K etc. We must include a variety of green vegetables and fruits in our diet, which are natural sources of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. Oranges are a good source of vitamin C while carrots contain vitamin A. Other than this, whole grain breads, cereals and calcium-rich foods should form a part of diet.
Natural Skin moisturizer: We cannot ignore the role of water in maintaining a healthy skin. Water helps in maintaining pH balance in our body and also flushes out toxins. Water hydrates the skin and carries nutrients to the cells. But beverages, aerated drinks and caffeine should not be counted in water intake. Coconut water or fresh fruit juices can be consumed daily in addition to pure water.
Un- healthy diet for skin health -There are some foods which you should avoid which are known to have negative effects on the skin. These are aerated drinks, caffeine, white flour, alcohol, friend foods and junk food. These foods do not contain nutrients rather they are rich in saturated fat and sugar which are bad for the health of the skin.
Drinking and smoking are also bad for health. They have harmful effects on skin also. Vasoconstriction is caused by smoking which makes the blood vessels narrower. In reality, this means, your skin is getting less of nutrients through blood. Alcohol and caffeine also dehydrate the skin so it is better to avoid them also.
Try to develop good food habits which will show on your skin also. Having lots of vegetables and fresh fruits, nuts in moderate amount, foods rich in monosaturated fats and legumes will bring a healthy glow on the skin
